DP&L Gives Energy Efficiency Rebates to Beavercreek Schools, MVH
DAYTON -- Dayton Power & Light says it has awarded an energy efficiency rebate of $492,051 - the largest energy efficiency rebate awarded by DP&L to date - to Beavercreek Schools for the innovative construction methods used in two of its new school buildings.
DP&L is proud to present Beavercreek Schools with our largest energy efficiency rebate for the districts willingness to use advanced energy efficiency systems that will save energy and keep costs down for Beavercreek residents, said DP&L President Derek A. Porter.
Beavercreek Superintendent Bill McGlothlin says efficiency was a priority for the new school buildings.
We are pleased to have our planning and foresight rewarded, McGlothlin said.
DP&Ls New Construction Rebate Program encourages building owners to use energy efficiency and design strategies that surpass standard building codes. Projects must achieve annual electric savings of 5 percent or higher than a building constructed to standard building codes.
DP&L said Beavercreek used a number of energy efficient ideas in the construction and installation of HVAC and lighting systems for Trebein Elementary and Coy Middle School, which opened in August 2013. The schools were built using insulating concrete foam construction, sandwiching concrete walls between two layers of insulating material. The school district also installed geothermal water source heat pumps, high efficiency lighting and skylight/daylighting.
The Beavercreek School District and district officials worked with DP&L during the design process of the school and submitted the required energy models for the rebate process. A site audit determined the energy savings for the district will be 2,224,819 kWh and $150,000 in electric savings annually.
Beavercreek Schools have also received $86,768 in Rapid Rebates from DP&L as a result of energy efficiency improvements to other schools in the district.
DP&L also awarded an energy efficiency rebate of $129,022.44 to Miami Valley Hospital for the green construction of its new 12-story patient tower.
When we built the new patient tower, we made a commitment to protect the environment through continuous improvement of our energy performance, said Mark Shaker, President and CEO of MVH. This energy rebate confirms that we made the right decision.
According to DP&L, MVH was the first hospital in southwestern Ohio and the second in the state designated a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certified building by the United States Green Building Council. The certification is regarded as the benchmark in green buildings.
