UPDATE: Suspect of High-Speed Chase in Custody
DAYTON -- Police responding to a shots fire called Tuesday night at Summit Square Apartments say a man fled the scene and led them on a high-speed chase.
Callers to 911 say they saw a group of men hanging out in cars and partying. One of those men reportedly crashed a car into another vehicle at the complex. As police are responding to those complaints, other calls reported shots being fired in the same area.
As police arrived, they say a green Pontiac Grand Prix traveling about 35 mph was traveling out of the apartment complex and it almost hit one of the police cruisers head on.
The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Darrell Moore II, reportedly led the police on a high-speed chase Hoover AVenue, State Route 49 and U.S. 35, before crashing the car into a center divider as he was exiting onto James H. McGee Boulevard. Both front tires deflated. Police say Moore then fled on foot and hid near some trees between Redlands Avenue and Delor Street.
Officers say he refused to comply and wouldn't show his hands. Saying they were concerned he might have a weapon, the officers said they Tasered Moore three times until he complied.
He was then arrested but, according to police, wouldn't provide proper identification. Officers eventually used a portable fingerprint identification computer, which identified the suspect as Moore.
Police say Moore's driver's license had been suspended. He was charged with failure to comply and resisting arrest.
At Summit Square Apartments, police say they found a car had broken windows, apparently from a piece of asphalt, which was found in the back seat of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala.
The person who was in possession of the Impala says she believes she knows the suspect who damaged the car. She said she knows him as "Baby Shern" but says his first name is either Darrell or Durrell. Police say Moore matches the description of the man identified at the apartment complex.
