EXCLUSIVE: Mom Treated Burned Daughter at Home, Feared Child Services Intervention
DAYTON -- A 3-year-old girl is taken to Dayton Children's Hospital after she was scalded with hot water two days prior.
Police were called to the 900 block of Huffman Avenue early Sunday morning.
When officers responded to a child endangering call they found a little girl with severe burns.
The Dayton Special Victims Unit responded to the scene, where they investigated the well being of the children.
Police describe the conditions inside the home as deplorable.
Police weren't notified about the incident until an anonymous 911 caller.
That caller told dispatchers that there was an accident two days ago at a neighbor's residence.
"It's like third-degree, fourth-degree burns. I mean it's really bad and the skin is literally rolled off," the caller said.
ABC 22/FOX 45 talked to that mother Sunday night. She wanted to remain unidentified but says she's not the monster people are making her out to be.
The mother says the accident happened on Friday when she and her 3 year old bumped in a pot of hot water.
"The pot splashed on her side by her ribs and immediately I threw the pots in the sink. I mean, the tub. And I took her shirt off," the mother said. "I dressed it two to three times a day. I was changing them, making sure it stayed clean."
The mother says she didn't take her daughter to the emergency room because of a prior Child Services case.
"The only reason I didn't take her to the emergency room at that point was fear of Children Services taking my children," she said.
The mother tells us she was cleared in her prior case with Child Services.
DAYTON -- A child is recovering at Children's Hospital after he or she was removed from a Dayton home with severe burns.
An anonymous caller dialed 911 around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Police say a 3-year old girl living in the 900 block of Huffman Avenue had hot liquid dumped on her.
She was then taken to Children's Hospital. The condition of the child is unknown at this time.
Detectives went to the home to investigate. So far no arrests have been made.
