SCHOLAR ATHLETE: OFFICIAL RULES
1. Who Can Enter
(a) To be eligible to participate in this contest, Scholar Athletes of the Week must 1) reside in the WKEF/WRGT/MYTV Dayton viewing area, 2) be currently enrolled as a senior at one of the High Schools (as defined below), 3) be an active member in one or more of the High School’s athletic programs or teams (i.e., football, soccer, cheer), and 4) not attend a high school in which at least one parent of the Scholar Athlete of the Week is employed.
Participating High Schools: Archbishop Alter, Kettering Fairmont, Xenia, Troy, Bellbrook, Tecumseh, Lebanon, Beavercreek, Springboro, Centerville, Stebbins, Fairborn, Tippecanoe, Sidney, Butler, Piqua, Brookville, Franklin, Eaton and Carlisle
(b) Employees of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., Sinclair Communications, LLC, and any other company which owns, programs or provides other services to television broadcast stations WKEF, WRGT, MYTV Dayton, the High Schools, their affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies, any and all local television broadcast and cable stations, local radio and other media companies, and the immediate family members of each are ineligible. The term “immediate family” includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren.
2. How to Enter
(a) No purchase is necessary to enter.
(b) Each of the High Schools’ athletic directors and/or principals will select one high school senior athlete (either male or female) to be the Scholar Athlete of the Week for the High School. The High Schools’ Scholars of the Week selections must be received by WKEF/WRGT/MYTV Dayton at least three days prior to the scheduled Thursday Night Lights football game in which that High School is participating. Scholar Athletes of the Week must sign appearance releases, which must be received by WRGT before their appearance on the broadcast. A Scholar Athlete of the Week must, at least three days prior to the Thursday Night Lights football game in which his or her high school is participating, complete both (i) a TNL Scholar Athlete Application Form and (ii) a Scholar Athlete Release form and deliver those forms via Email, U.S. mail or hand delivery to WKF/WRGT, c/o Michael Thomas, News Production Manager, 2245 Corporate Place, Dayton, OH, 45342, or via email at email@example.com via fax to Mike Thomas at 937-263-9537. Delivery may be done through the Scholar Athlete of the Week’s high school athletic director or other high school administrator. A Scholar Athlete of the Week may supplement his or her application form by delivering updated or additional information to WKEF/WRGT on or by December 1, 2017.
(c) Each Thursday from August 24, 2017 to October 26, 2017, two of the High Schools will participate in the Thursday Night Lights football game, which airs on MYTV Dayton (aka 45.2) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Scholar Athletes of the Week from each of the High Schools playing that week will be featured on television during halftime of that game.
(d) Each Scholar Athlete of the Week will be eligible to win the Scholar Athlete of the Year Scholarship. To qualify to win the scholarship, each Scholar Athlete of the Week must write and deliver to WKEF/WRGT/MyTV Dayton, in the same manner specified in paragraph 2(b) above, one (1) two minute (2:00) video in the form of DVD, broadcast tape, or electronic video file (i.e., .mov, .mpeg, .wma, .m2t or .avi only) produced solely by the Nominee Scholar Athlete of the Week in support of why he or she should be named Scholar Athlete of the Year and win the scholarship. In order to be considered, the essay must be received by WKEF/WRGT COB on or before December 1, 2017.
(e) By entering, each nominee for Scholar Athlete of the Week i) represents and warrants that all information submitted by the Scholar Athlete of the Week or on his/her behalf is accurate to the best of his/her knowledge, ii) represents and warrants that the essay is his/her own work, and iii) agrees that WKEF/WRGT/MyTV Dayton has the right to use nominee’s appearance, likeness and voice.
(f) A panel of three judges comprised of WKEF/WRGT and Universal 1 Credit Union representatives will judge each Scholar Athlete of the Week based on the following criteria: i) academic achievement (25%), ii) athletic achievement (25%), iii) community activities (25%) and essay content, including grammar, punctuation and spelling (25%). In the event of a tie, the judges will re-judge and score the tied entrants until a decision is reached. The decisions of the judges shall be final. WKEF/WRGT/MyTV Dayton reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to disqualify any entry. All decisions of WKEF/WRGT relating to the judging of this contest or the compliance and/or interpretation of these rules are final.
(g) On or about December 11, 2017, one (1) Scholar Athlete of the Year will be determined from among the Scholar Athletes of the Week based on each of the judging criterion set forth in paragraph (f) above. The Scholar Athlete of the Year will be notified on or by December 19, 2017, and may be required to appear in an on-air promotion to be produced by WKEF/WRGT/MyTV Dayton.
(h) All entries (including DVD’s) received that are mutilated, tampered with, incorrect, illegible, or from ineligible entrants will be void. All entries (including DVD’s) become the property of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., and WKEF/WRGT/MyTV Dayton, and will not be acknowledged or returned.
3. The Prize(s)
(a) Each of the twenty (20) Scholar Athletes of the Week will receive a plaque valued at twenty five dollars ($25), will be featured in an on-air promotion that will air on WKEF/WRGT. The value of the on-air promotion cannot be determined. One (1) 2017 Scholar Athlete of the Year will receive a five thousand dollar ($5,000) scholarship to the college or university he/she plans to attend. At the winner’s direction, a check for the scholarship amount will be made payable to the school of choice of the winner, for the benefit of the winner.
(b) Winners will be notified by phone. Winners must sign and return a release and affidavit of eligibility, which must be received within five days of notification. If a winner is a minor, then the winner’s parents or guardian must sign a release and affidavit of eligibility before the winner receives his or her prize. Each winner must sign and return a release and affidavit of eligibility, which must be received within three (3) days of notification, at the time winner claims his/her prize in person at WKEF/WRGT. WKEF/WRGT/MyTV Dayton reserves the right to examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.
(c) If the Scholar Athlete of the Year Scholarship winner (i) cannot be notified within five (5) days, or (ii) does not timely sign and return the release and affidavit of eligibility, then the prize may be awarded to an alternate winner as determined by the judges in their sole and absolute discretion.
(d) There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for prizes. No transfer or assignment of prizes is allowed.
(e) The winner is responsible for paying all local, county, state and federal taxes on prizes based on the estimated retail value of the prizes as set forth in these rules.
(f) Contestants are eligible to win only one prize within any one hundred and eighty day period, regardless of the number of contests entered.
(g) Sinclair Communications, LLC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. are not liable if the provider of any part of the prize fails to satisfy its obligations to furnish its portion of the prize.
(h) Sinclair Communications, LLC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and Sinclair Television Group, Inc., are not responsible for any liabilities arising directly or indirectly from the award or use of the prize.
(i) In claiming your prize, you acknowledge that Sinclair Communications, LLC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. have the right to publicize your name, character, likeness, photograph, voice and the fact that you are the winner for promotional purposes without financial remuneration.
(a) Complete contest rules are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours at WKEF/WRGT, 2245 Corporate Place, Miamisburg, OH, 45342 and on WRGT’s web site at www.fox45now.com. WRGT reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to disqualify any entry.
(b) For a list of prize winners, send a separate, self-addressed, stamped envelope to WRGT, c/o “Prize Winners-Scholar Athlete,” Promotions Department, 2245 Corporate Place, Miamisburg, OH, 45342.
(c) This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited. Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., Sinclair Communication, LLC and accept no responsibility or liability in connection with any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by or resulting from the acceptance, possession or use of any prize awarded hereunder.
(d) WKEF/WRGT cannot be held liable for any lost or stolen entries, prizes or contest information.
(e) WKEF/WRGT reserves the right to make rules and contest changes and change the aforementioned contest dates.
