Xenia H.S. volleyball player Kristina White named Scholar Athlete of the Year
XENIA, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A Xenia High School senior who plays volleyball, had a 4.73 GPA and was involved in student council, chemistry club and volunteering for her church was named Scholar Athlete of the Year Tuesday.
Kristina White also is a student aid, and is involved with athletic training and Spanish club. VP Human Resources for Universal 1 Credit Union said White's grades, athletics and community service combined were what led to her receiving the award.
"We spend a lot of time in the community," Jones said. "She showed in the video how important the community was to her."
White was one the students named Scholar Athlete of the Week throughout our Thursday Night Lights season. Each week, principals or athletic directors from the two schools selected a student to be named Scholar Athlete of the Week. All of those students were then eligible to enter to win the Scholar Athlete of the Year Scholarship, and White was surprised by her athletic director with the award while at a student council event.
"It really means everything," she said. "The fact that it can help my mom with paying for college, and just this great honor," she said.
"It's really surreal to me," White continued.
White said she's still working on figuring out where she will be heading to school in the fall.
