Question of the Day
Should schools teach creationism in addition to evolution?
Comment: There's nothing wrong with comparative thinking. Let's face it, if we evolved from the ape why are there still apes? Is E. Gordon Gee a product of evolution? That's scary. from sunny downtown Fairborn by the ol' Man
Comment: It takes faith to believe both evolution and creation. from Brookville, Oh by Terri
Comment: Founding fathers intended Biblical principals be taught in the schools. They held bible studies during political meetings also (not that anyone would be willing to say that nowadays). Washington was found to say that if the Bible was removed, our country would fail. from Middletown, OH by Jennifer
Comment: There is data to support both theories. Why not teach both of them? from Tipp City by Rex
Comment: Absolutely, it's about time! from Centerville, ohio by Sherry
Comment: Critical thinking is one of the most crucial skills we can teach our students. I applaud any school district that teaches students how to handle controversy in an intelligent manner. from Pleasant Hill, OH by Amy
Comment: The THEORY of evolution is taught as fact. My Christian children need to be taught creationism in school as a valid theory to support what we, as parents, and the church are teaching them. Evolution is an incorrect theory, but my child has to learn it as fact instead of the truth of creationism. What are they so scared of, call it a "theory" and be done with it. Those who don't believe it, fine, but it is a THEORY. from Greenville OH by Sandra
Comment: School should be about learning all different things, being able to form your own opinions and consider other peoples opinions. My kids learn all of the fundamentals of Buddhism,Hinduism, Judism...why not be allowed to also know basics of Creationism? People need to grow up and quit looking for things to argue about. from Troy by Christy
Comment: Interpretation of scientific facts depends on one's point of view. Not even all scientists agree on whether evolution or creationism (intelligent design)is correct. from Tipp City by Sylvia
Comment: Religion is an important part of any culture. Teaching Creationism as one possible theory is part of our past youth should be taught along with Evolution. from Hollansburg, OH by Shelly
Comment: It's great of debate and let's the student choose. from Dayton, Oh by Matt
Comment: It needs to be taught that Creationism is the position that God created the universe. Ceationism would teach that God creates the soul in the person at conception. "In God We Trust" !!!!!!!!!!! from Bellbrook, OH by C.
Comment: I think both should wait till high school age and she presented as a debate format. In younger grades, parents should be offered resources to teach their kids their choosen belief on that.
Comment: Only if it's in a world religion class where they also discuss other faith based explanations of the creation of the world. Please don't let us be like Texans. from Dayton, OH by Kimberly
Comment: No. Creationism is pseudo-science AT BEST. Leave religion out of critical thinking. What's next? Teaching the Earth is 4,000 years old? from Union, OH by Frank
Comment: Science should stick to science, not belief. from xenia by scott
Comment: Thomas Jefferson said there should be a wall between church and state. Many scream that we've taken God out of schools, but it's federally funded and according to our Founding Fathers, religion is not part of the schools. from Portland, IN by Michelle
Comment: Certainly social studies classes (such as anthropology) and philosophy classes (such as epistemology and cosmology) have plenty of room to teach creationism (comparing Cherokee origin stories to Shinto, Biblical, etc. all taught in a scholarly, non-religious manner). Creationism, however, is not science and should not be taught in science class. from Beavercreek, OH by Brian
Comment: If that is what you want for your child you should send them to a religious school. from Kettering, OH by Perry
