Mexican girl who lost part of her arm gets prosthetic in Dayton

Mexican girl who lost part of her arm gets prosthetic in Dayton (WKEF/WRGT)

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – A young girl from Mexico who lost her left arm from the elbow down in a horse-riding accident will be getting a new prosthetic thanks to one Dayton business.

Owner of Optimus Prosthetic John Brandt’s sister knows a family from Huber Heights whose daughter met the little girl while in Mexico.

The family’s daughter came to know Miranda while volunteering in La Mision. Her volunteer organization in Mexico then raised funds to help bring Miranda to Optimus, as well as cover the cost of her prosthesis.

Miranda is now learning how to hold things, turn her wrist and brush her hair all over again,

“She wants to ride horses again,” a translator for Miranda said. “As you well know, this occurred as a result of a horse-riding accident, so she wants to ride a horse again. She loves horses, she loves animals.”

She will stay with that Huber Heights family while she recovers, and so she can go through a series of fitting appointments before returning to Mexico on Saturday.
