Crews say 'suspicious device' was camera battery; area evacuated for investigation

Wayne and Wyoming intersection shut down after reports of suspicious device (WKEF/WRGT)

UPDATE: Police said a suspected large camera battery was found in the intersection of Wayne and Wyoming Wednesday afternoon.

They were responding on reports of a suspicious device, and they said the battery had broken open to expose 6 tubes bound tight with tape and wires attached to it. A perimeter was set up and people in the area were evacuated as crews handled the scene.

Dayton Bomb Squad sent a robot in and determined that it was not a bomb, and reopened the intersection in about an hour.


DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The intersection of Wayne and Wyoming was shut down while crews investigated a suspicious package Wednesday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., our crew said that Wayne Avenue had reopened, but Wyoming Street was reopened.
