Wright State takes down Kent State
FAIRBORN (WSU Athletics) - In their second home game of the season, the Raiders move to 5-3 on the season with a 61-55 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes. After coming home with the Challenge in Music City Broadway title last weekend, the Raiders win streak moves to four in a row. The Raiders also snapped the perfect 3-0 record that the Flashes held over Horizon League opponents this season.
The Raiders' stifling defense kept the Flashes in check in the first half, holding them to a paltry 23 points. The second quarter would also be the last time that the Flashes would hold onto the lead, when they were up 21-20 with 3:45 remaining before the half.
The first quarter proved to be a back and forth between the two teams with the lead never greater than more than three points. Although the Raiders dominated rebounds 14-8 but they were never able to capitalize on the success because of three personal fouls and three steals against while also going cold from three-point range.
Coming off of the bench, Angel Baker kept the Raiders' lead intact, Baker added 12 points and one rebound. In the last 90 seconds of the quarter the freshman guard hit two consecutive shots to extend the Wright State lead to eight over Kent State.
Senior guard Symone Simmons led the way on defense where she was able to haul in 9 total rebound in the first half.
The Golden Flashes came out of the locker room hot and a flurry of scoring began to cut into the lead built in the first half. While Raider scoring ran cold, the Flashes were able to get within four points of the Wright State. Despite keeping her in check during the first half, Kent State leading scorer Megan Carter began to find her groove in the third. Carter scored 10 of the 12 points that Kent State would add in the third quarter.
Angel Baker led the way for the Raiders in the fourth adding 10 points of her 24 point game. Mackenzie Taylor got onto the scoresheet after converting both of her foul shots which extended the Raider lead 50-44, she would later add another three points from the line. Imani Partlow dominated the boards where she was able to gather in four rebounds. With just over a minute remaining and the Raider lead at seven points, Angel Baker came through with a powerful block on a potential three-pointer from the Flashes.

The Raiders will travel to Riverdale, NY to take part in the Manhattan Tournament where they will face off against Drexel (5-1) and Manhattan (1-4).
