Centerville improves to 4-0 with 24-12 win over Springfield


SPRINGFIELD -- Centerville (4-0) defeated Springfield (3-1) 24-12 in FOX 45's Game of the Week.

It was one of only three games in week 4 that featured two undefeated teams.

Centerville struck first on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Alec Grandin to Donovan Shelton.

In the second quarter a Springfield fumble set up Brandon Walters' 32 yard field goal.

Grandin connected with Jake Spiewak on a 58 yard touchdown pass to give Centerville a 17-0 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter Tavion Smoot scored the quarter's only touchdown a bruising 25 yard run over and through the Elks' defense.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter Grandin connected with JR Melzer for a 28 yard score to make it 24-6.

Smoot quickly answered with a 4 yard touchdown run to make it 24-12 with 10:14 to go but that would be the final score of the game.

Grandin completed 20 of 34 passes for three touchdowns.

Spiewak hauled in a game-high 8 catches for a game-high 110 yards and one touchdown.

For Springfield Caleb Johnson caught 8 passes for 95 yards.
