UD loses to Northeastern in OT
DAYTON (UD Athletics) - The University of Dayton women's basketball team fell short in overtime in a tough battle against Northeastern.
Dayton (1-2) continued its slate of tough non-conference games against a gritty Northeastern (3-0) team.
Overtime – 4:37 – Northeastern's Jess Genco hit a three with 1:35 left in overtime to give Northeastern an eight-point lead
1st Quarter: Dayton 15, Northeastern 22
Northeastern jumped out to a 16-8 advantage after forcing three turnovers in the first six minutes.
The Flyers' defense held Northeastern to 39-percent shooting.
Northeastern led for the whole quarter, but by no more than eight points.
Jess Genco for Northeastern led both teams with nine points.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 34, Northeastern 41
Dayton started the quarter on a 7-0 run to even the score at 22-22.
Dayton shot 43 percent from three in the second 10 minutes.
Northeastern led 29-28 at the 4:25 mark.
Dayton took the lead for the first time with the score of 30-29.
Northeastern finished the half on a 6-0 run to take a seven-point lead.
Jayla Scaife led the Flyers with 13 points.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 49, Northeastern 51
Dayton's defense came out strong not letting Northeastern score for the first three minutes.
Northeastern led 45-38 halfway through the quarter.
Jess Genco and Shannon Todd led Northeastern with 18 and 17 points respectively.

Jess Genco hit a jumper to give Northeastern a two-point lead going into the fourth.
4th Quarter: Dayton 68, Northeastern 68
Shakeela Fowler hit a three with 6:13 left to give the Flyers a one-point lead
With 4:43 left Northeastern led 58-56.
Freshman Kyla Whitehead had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Araion Bradshaw hit a three with 49 seconds left to tie the game.
Jess Genco answers immediately to make the score 68-66.
With 26 seconds, left Jayla Scaife hit two free-throws to even the score at 68.
Northeastern missed a shot with two seconds left, forcing overtime.
Overtime: Dayton 79, Northeastern 84
Northeastern hits three straight shots to get a seven-point lead forcing a Dayton timeout with 2:12 left.
The Flyers were outscored in overtime 16-11.
Northeastern hit its free throws down the stretch and sealed the victory.
