Students arrange candle light vigil for heroin awareness in Dayton
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – Ohio has been called the epicenter of the opioid crisis, with heroin claiming lives and impacting the community as a whole.
A group of Stebbins Allied Health & Nursing students saw the impact on the community, and arranged a Candle Light Vigil for heroin awareness Thursday night.
Floating candle luminarias were released in memory of loved ones who have been impacted by heroin.
The work was personal for the students who arranged the vigil.
“We had a poll in class just to see who was affected by heroin,” student Nolan Dyer said, “and every student raised their hand. That had a big impact on me and all of us on why we wanted to do this.”
The project was made possible by grants from Northeast Ohio Medical University, Americorp, Wright State and the University of Cincinnati.
