Volunteers prep famous potato salad for annual Germanfest Picnic
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Get your taste buds ready for the annual Germanfest Picnic, which returns this weekend.
Starting Friday at 5 p.m., you can stop by Riverscape MetroPark in downtown Dayton to grab a glimpse of the German heritage that has given the Gem City some of its cultural identity, all while enjoying an imported beer and schnitzel.
FOX 45 News caught up with volunteers on Thursday who were prepping the festival's famous potato salad, and they said the excitement is building for the event.
"This is our 35th year," publicity chairperson for Germanfest Picnic Judy Schneider said, "and some of our potato peelers, who are of age all the way up to 94, have been doing it every year for 35 years. It's like a party. People look forward to coming and getting together."
The festival, which runs through Sunday, will also have a kid zone, culture display, 5K and 10K race, genealogy assistance and a grand raffle prize of a trip for two to Germany.
