Victims in Miami Township murder/suicide identified

    MIAMI TWP., Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Miami Township Police have identified the suspect and victims in a murder/suicide at an apartment complex Friday.

    A man called 911 Friday telling dispatchers he'd just killed his girlfriend and her son and was going to kill himself. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found three victims, the suspect, who has been identified as Jovonie L. McClendon, 33, was dead at the scene. Police also found Di'eshia Patterson, 27, injured at the scene, she's currently hospitalized at Kettering Medical Center. Patterson's son, Carter L. Clemons, 6, was found dead at the scene.

    Officers were called to the Preserve at Sagebrook apartments just after 11:30 Friday morning. After calling dispatchers, police say McClendon shot himself on Facebook live. It's unclear at this time what motivated the shootings.

    MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The families of those involved in Friday’s deadly shooting are not the only ones trying to cope with the tragedy. First responders are also dealing with this devastating situation. “We"re working with our first responders, both with us, the sheriff"s department, our fire district to make sure our responders are okay,” Miami Township Police Chief Ronald Hess said.

    McClendon worked for the United States Postal Service at the Washington Township branch. Before working at the post office, McClendon was enlisted with the U.S. Army.

    Family of Carter Clemons and Di'eshia Patterson set up a gofundme page to help with expenses and unexpected funeral costs.
