Troy 6th graders meet with Senator Brown while on D.C. trip
WASHINGTON (WKEF/WRGT) - Troy 6th graders who were able to make their trip to D.C. after a company offered to pay the entire cost met with Senator Sherrod Brown (D - OH) while in the capitol.
Van Cleve student learned the news that their trip to D.C. had been cancelled after families had pre-paid hundreds of dollars. Discovery Tours, the company that was supposed to set it up the trip, had taken the money but failed to deliver.
However, a bit of luck and tons of generosity still allowed the students to go on the trip after WorldStrides stepped in to offer to sponsor the entire trip.
“I am proud to welcome Van Cleve Elementary 6th graders to our nation’s capital today and grateful to the folks who worked so hard to make sure these kids could still make their trip,” Brown said. “Ohioans still deserve answers from Discovery Tours and that’s why I’ve called federal authorities to investigate.”
Senator Brown had called for an investigation into Discovery Tours after the trips were cancelled, and wrote letters to the FTC and Department of Justice.
