TROTWOOD, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Trotwood Police are investigating after an unknown person reportedly started shooting at another vehicle, injuring a 4 year old Wednesday night.
Trotwood Chief of Police Erik Wilson said the mom of the child was heading south on Salem Avenue at Olive Road when an unknown person in another vehicle opened fire, hitting that vehicle multiple times. The child was in the backseat of the car in a car seat, and was hit by the gunfire. Her mother then drove to the McDonald's on Salem Avenue, asking for help.
The little girl has been taken to Dayton Children's Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Trotwood Police are continuing their investigation, but are asking anyone with more information who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
"Any time you have a young child caught up in the middle of something like this, it’s definitely disconcerting," Wilson said, "and we want to do everything we can to find out who did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
