SNAP benefits available for the month of February as the shutdown lingers
MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WRGT/WKEF)- Good news for SNAP recipients in the Miami Valley. According to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, SNAP recipients will be able to receive their benefits for the month of February.
Back in December, the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) revealed that they only had funds set aside for the month of January. Now, the USDA released that the funds will be available through February.
CEO of The Foodbank Michelle Riley said SNAP is critical to families who struggle to put food on the table.
"While we are encouraged by the USDA’s decision to issue SNAP for February, this only holds off what could come – support to buy food to our most vulnerable neighbors including children, seniors, and those with disabilities will be suspended until the government reopens.” said Riley.
The benefits for the month of February will be issued to recipients on or before January 20, 2019, according to the USDA.
