Racist graffiti found inside bathroom stalls at Wright State for second time in 2 weeks
UPDATE: Campus police are looking for the vandal accused of painting racist and politically charged graffiti found on bathroom stalls at Wright State University.
The graffiti targeted African Americans, people of Jewish and Muslim faith and women. It also used a popular Trump campaign slogan "MAGA."
The university said they're proud of campus diversity, and they will hold whoever is responsible accountable.
Students who talked with FOX 45 were shocked and offended.
"Yeah its very offensive!" said Darrell Miller.
"It can hurt, yeah it can really hurt," said Anurag Shetty.
"That's just terrible," said Alonna Lumpkin, "I just don't understand why people feel the need to do that."
A university spokesperson said they've had four reported cases of the inflammatory messages, but police could only confirm two, in two different campus bathrooms.
One of the messages reads:
"Black lives don't matter here! Soldiers died for you- stand for the flag or die [racial slur]! Antifa + BLM are TERRORISTS! DJT will purge [racial slur] freeloaders"
A second reads:
"Date rape doesn't exist! Stop feminazi false rape allegations! Women are our property! Submit as God commands you to!"
The third graffiti says:
"Jews go home. [Homophobic slur] will not replace us. Islam is terrorism. Liberals hate America. MAGA!"
After seeing pictures of the graffiti for the first time, student Vejer Cox told FOX 45, "We are all students on this campus we all carry our own weight, so I just don't even get why that type of hate would be displayed."
WSU's Chief Diversity Officer Matthew Boaz said the graffiti doesn't represent campus values.
"We take it very seriously and we're trying to be as responsive as possible and proactive ongoing, but when something like this happens it's a bit of a setback for the progress we're trying to make," Boaz said.
The messages were reported to Boaz's office and immediately removed.
A WSU spokesperson said police believe one person is responsible for all of the graffiti, but they aren't sure if the vandal is a student.
"If we can identify who's responsible we will hold them accountable," Boaz said.
A university spokesperson said the graffiti is vandalism, so whether a student or someone else was involved they will be punished accordingly.
The university says the graffiti has been removed and that messages of hate are not acceptable. "This behavior is not reflective of our values as a community," said Matthew L. Boaz, the chief diversity officer at the university. In a statement from the university, Boaz says while vandalism is a crime, it also violates the university's Student Code of Conduct.
Pictures of the graffiti appeared on the Wright State College Democrats Facebook page. The graffiti reads, in part, "Islam is terrorism," "Black Lives Don't Matter Here," "Jews Go Home" and "liberals hate America." The graffiti includes racist and anti-gay slurs. A university spokesman says the graffiti was written in dry erase marker, not permanent marker.
Another portion of the graffiti reads, "Date Rape Doesn't Exist! Stop feminazi false rape allegations! Women are our property! Submit as God commands you to!"
It's unclear at this point who wrote the messages inside the campus restrooms, but a university spokesman says it's believed one person is behind the graffiti. The university is urging anyone who sees graffiti or vandalism on campus to call Wright State Police at 937-775-2111.
