Police: Speeds reach 120 mph as officers chase suspect in Springfield bank robbery
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A Dayton man faces aggravated robbery charges after police say he led them on a high-speed chase after robbing a bank.
Police say Ricky Jenkins, 27, robbed Security National Bank on Saturday, July 14 just after 11:00 a.m. According to a police report, Jenkins entered the bank with a semi-automatic handgun and a mask over his face. Witnesses say Jenkins jumped onto the bank counter and yelled for money while pointing a gun at him. Bank tellers gave Jenkins the money, which police say he put into a plastic bag from Skyline Chili.
After leaving the bank, Jenkins started running, police say, and eventually got into a white Buick Park Avenue. Police spotted Jenkins at a Shell station on Limestone Street, from there, officers say they chased Jenkins on I-70 westbound, speeds reached 120 miles per hour. Jenkins eventually crashed on the I-70 ramp to I-675 south exit, but he got out of the car and kept running, police say. Officers caught up with Jenkins on Lower Valley Pike, they also found cash on him.
Jenkins now faces charges of aggravated robbery and fleeing and eluding.
