Miami Township PD sponsors ALICE training to teach about active shooter response
MIAMI TWP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Miami Township Police are helping teach others how to survive and respond to an active shooter situation.
The department sponsored a two-day ALICE training course in Moraine, which teaches proactive survival strategies for violent intruder or active shooter incidents.
ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. The strategy has become standard after the mass shooting at Columbine High School in 1999.
"It's empowering you with some tools," Miami Township Sgt. Jason Etter said, "whether it be barricade a door, go out a window, throw something at the person; just do something."
People who have completed the course are then certified to share the skills with others.
