UPDATE: More than a year after he was reported missing, Jacob Caldwell has been found safe.

In a news conference Tuesday morning, Chief Michael Brown with Sugarcreek Police Department said a credible tip came in to the department after new billboards were put up last week. The person who called in the tip didn't want to be identified, but according to Chief Brown, the information given "seemed very credible," and included specific details.

Around 11:30 p.m Monday night, Chief Brown said his office served a search warrant at a home in Miami Township in Montgomery County. Police say there were four adults living inside the home and Jacob was in the basement. Chief Brown said it did not appear that Jacob was "secured or locked in" the basement, adding that it appeared he was free to go where he pleased in the home. However, Brown said it appears Jacob did not go outside while he was in the home or socialized with any other children.

Jacob looked to be healthy when he was escorted out of the home, Brown said, but he's not sure how the situation has affected his mind, "traumatized, I don't know, someone else is going to have to make that evaluation." After being taken out of the home, Jacob was taken to the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center where he's being held on a warrant out of Beavercreek. Brown said the adults in the home were surprised to see police at their door, he said he's not sure yet what charges they'll face.

The case has been frustrating at times for police, Brown said, but it's something they've never given up on, "It's been on our mind every day." He added that investigators always felt Jacob was not in physical danger, "we always felt that he was fine, we had a feeling, a really strong feeling that it was a family member involved in him being missing." Brown said Jacob was not abducted, but said he was encouraged by family members to run away.

SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A local teen who's been missing for more than a year has been found safe his family tells FOX45.

Jacob Caldwell was last seen in Sugarcreek Township on August 21, 2017, just days after he witnessed his father's murder in Riverside.

Caldwell's stepmother confirmed Tuesday morning to FOX45 that her stepson had been found safe, but she had few details. New billboards went up last week to help get the word out that Jacob was still missing.

Jacob's father, Robert Cadlwell, was shot and killed on Linden Avenue on August 15, 2017. In March of 2018, local and federal authorities announced that a federal grand jury had handed down the indictments of six people, including Caldwell's ex-wife. Just weeks before his death, Caldwell called 911, telling law enforcement he was in fear of his life. "Yeah I have got a guy chasing me over here on Sutton in Jamestown, and he just tried to lure me, I'm assuming he's trying to kill me," Caldwell told dispatchers in Greene County.

"Do you know who it is?" the dispatcher asked.

    "Yeah I do," Caldwell replied.

Just before his death, Robert Caldwell had won custody of his children from his ex-wife, Tawnney, his brother told FOX45. "Once he got full custody, that's when all of this happened," Tyler Caldwell told FOX 45. "This isn't some street battle with two bad guys, it was a guy that just literally dotted every 'i' and crossed every 't.'" Tawnney Caldwell's ex-husband Sterling Roberts is accused of firing the shots that killed Robert Caldwell. U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman said Tawnney Caldwell and Sterling Roberts stalked Robert Caldwell through a cell phone and then deleted the evidence. Police caught up with Sterling Roberts in South Carolina. Roberts' brother, Christopher Roberts and his half-brother Chance Deakin were also indicted for aiding and abetting. James and Chandram Harmon, who are Tawnney Caldwell's mother and stepfather were also indicted.
