Homeless man accused of punching pregnant woman, attempting to rape her
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A homeless man who is accused of punching a pregnant woman and trying to rape her appeared before a judge Saturday.
In court, prosecutors said the woman, who is reportedly nine months pregnant, was walking her dog at a park on Riverside Drive at around 11 a.m. Friday morning when Anthony Smith attacked her.
They say Smith tried to pull off her clothes during the attack.
"The victim fought the defendant, and he responded by punching the victim multiple times in the face. The victim suffered serious injuries, including a possible fractured nose and jaw. In addition ... the victim is visibly pregnant and now has complications to the pregnancy," said the prosecutor in court Saturday.
Smith's lawyer said Smith has mental health problems. He said back in April, Smith had two misdemeanor charges dismissed because he was found incompetent to stand trial.
Smith is being charged with felonious assault and attempted rape.
Bond was set at $2 million.
