UPDATE: Shawn Bailey is set to spend the next two years behind bars in connection with this case. he will also serve 5 years of probation after being released.
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A former Dayton city worker has pleaded guilty to sex charges involving a minor.
Shawn Bailey, 40, pleaded guilty to five counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and one count of disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile.
He was originally indicted on three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles on May 17. The mother of the minor victim went to police after she reportedly found texts on the teen's phone from the defendant. Bailey was indicted and a warrant was issued for his arrest the next day.
At his arraignment, Bailey was released on his own recognizance with the stipulations that he have no contact with the victim and that he would be placed on the Electronic Home Detention Program. While he was awaiting trail, a neighbor called police and said they saw a child going to the home, and police arrested Bailey again for sexual conduct with a minor. The suspect was then indicted on two more counts.
The parent of one of the victims sent FOX 45 News the following statement:
Shawn Baliey's guilty plea brings us one step closer to being able to put this whole ordeal behind us and continue to heal. I'm hopeful that the court will make an example out of him considering his charges and occupation; thus far sending a message to others that they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Thank you Harrison township police department, detective Dingee, and everyone involved with our case.
Bailey is set to be sentenced October 3.
