WILBERFORCE, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A crash has claimed the life of a sophomore student from Wilberforce University.

In a statement released on the university's Facebook page, the university wrote "It it with great sadness that the Wilberforce family mourns the passing of one of our students this morning. We have lost Alexandria Austin, sophomore, Psychology major from Wayne, Pennsylvania."

The crash happened around 2:30 Tuesday morning on Bickett Road and State Route 42. According to campus police, four students were involved in the crash as they were leaving the university. The vehicle somehow crashed into a tree. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating and says the driver, Ariel Woodard , 21, was speeding. Woodard is a student at Wilberforce, authorities say.

Wilberforce is asking students to pray for Austin's family and friends as they deal with the tragic loss, as well as those injured in the crash. Grief counselors are being offered to students. Shaka Sylvester, 18, a Central State University student and Alanna Wedderburn, 23, a Wilberforce student were sitting in the backseat of the vehicle.

"Even though I didn't know the people myself, I just feel like paying respect to people because at Central State," Central State University Freshman Jalen Million said. "We're all family."
