Criminal complaint details child porn allegations against former Oakwood police chief

Alex Bebris (Winnebago Co. Jail)

OAKWOOD, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A former Oakwood police chief who now lives in Wisconsin is accused of possessing and distributing child pornography.

ABC 22/FOX 45 got a hold of the criminal complaint which states Facebook got a tip that led to the arrest of 49-year-old Alex Bebris.

"It always breaks my heart when I hear stories like that," Teresa McClure, who works in Oakwood, said.

Bebris was chief for 11 years before moving to Wisconsin last year.

"You throw your entire career and your family away for something like that," McClure said.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Bebris, investigators found child pornography on his hard drive on December 19.

They also said he distributed child porn in September.

"With the images on the internet like that, it's scary to think that anybody's kids could be involved," McClure said.

The complaint stated the victims were boys and girls ranging from 1 to 15.

Investigators said Bebris was arrested after sending the pictures on Facebook messenger. Facebook flagged the pictures and notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

"Normal people just wouldn't understand how anybody could find that something interesting to look at," McClure said.

The complaint contends investigators found 89 child porn files on Bebris' computer hard drive

"My heart breaks for those kids, those children," Oakwood resident Garietta Beddies said. "They have a life time of scars they're going to have to deal with, but hopefully they can get the help they need, and hopefully they can find these kids and stop this abuse."

After the arrest, Oakwood police said they were shocked and had no reason to believe Bebris was involved in inappropriate or illegal behavior while working there.

"Who knows what's going on behind closed doors and it's scary to think again, someone in such a position of power would do something like that. It's terrible," Beddies said.
