Community comes together to help bring Christmas to kids who wouldn't have one otherwise
MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – “It’s our chance to give back to the community," Doug Mann said.
For the past 27 years, members of the Dyer, Garofalo, Mann and Schultz law firm have teamed up with For the Love Of Children (FLOC) to help bring Christmas to kids that wouldn’t have one otherwise.
"We want to try to tell the kids, 'Okay, you may be going through a really tough time. You may be in foster care. But for God's sake, this is your time of year to have a smile’,” Mike Dyer said.
Throughout the year, people drop donations into FLOC boxes at more than 70 businesses around the community. All of those donations are brought together each December at the Christmas for Kids cottage.
Caregivers and parents get to shop around the store and pick up things for kids in foster care, as well as children from the community and inner city schools who wouldn’t normally have found anything under the tree.
“This is what Christmas is all about,” Mann said.
Each person picking out the gifts can select 3 toys, and then gets a hat and jacket to help the kids stay warm throughout the winter.
The organization started out just serving 30 kids, but in 2016, they took care of more than 2,600. For more information, you can check out this website.
