UD Releases 2014-15 MBB Non-Conference Schedule

DAYTON, Ohio - Home games against Georgia Tech and Ole Miss, the return of the Miami rivalry and a trip to the Puerto Rico Tip-Off highlight the 2014-15 University of Dayton men's basketball non-conference schedule. The Flyers' non-conference slate will include seven home games, two on the road and three neutral site games at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off."Our non-conference schedule is as difficult as it's ever been,” said head coach Archie Miller, who will be starting his fourth season at UD.   “We challenge ourselves every year to put together one of the best schedules we can prior to entering Atlantic 10 play.  It serves us two-fold.  One, it has to prepare us to play what will be a grueling 18-game conference slate in what has become one of the premier  basketball leagues in the country.  Two, it has to be strong enough to help put us in the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season.“This year’s non-conference schedule does both -- as it did a year ago.   We have tremendous depth early in the year in Puerto Rico, where we will start off with Texas A&M and also true road games at Miami and Arkansas.   Our home slate is balanced with conference contenders and series games with Georgia Tech and Ole Miss. “We are very serious when it comes to our plan for every season and this one was no different.  It will be exciting and very difficult at the same time.""This is a very challenging schedule," "Our expectation is to always compete for an Atlantic 10 championship, and this year's non-conference schedule will afford us the opportunity to play against great competition in November and December to help prepare us for the always difficult conference grind."Dayton finished 2013-14 ranked 18th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll. UD's 26 wins were the third-most in school history. The Flyers return the bulk of UD's "True Team" 11-man rotation for next year. That includes leading scorer Jordan Sibert (12.2 ppg) at guard and NCAA All-Region selection Dyshawn Pierre (11.2 ppg) at forward.
NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULEThe regular season begins on Friday, Nov. 14 with a home game against Alabama A&M.  UD will then head south for the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, which will be held Nov. 20, 21 and 23 from the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan.  The Flyers will open with Texas A&M, and are paired with the College of Charleston and defending national champion UConn in the top half of the bracket.  Other teams in the tournament are Boston College, George Mason, New Mexico and West Virginia.UD returns home to face Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 29.   After a four-day break, Dayton will play at Miami on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The series with Miami dates back to 1909, the second-oldest in Flyer basketball history. After home games against Eastern Michigan (Saturday, Dec. 6) and Bowling Green (Wednesday, Dec. 9), Dayton begins a series with Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday, Dec. 13.  Arkansas will return the game at UD Arena next season. The Flyers will close the non-conference slate with three straight home games starting with a contest against Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 20.Former Flyer Head Coach Brian Gregory and Georgia Tech visit UD Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 23. Last year, Dayton won at Georgia Tech, 82-72.UD will complete the non-conference portion of the season hosting Ole Miss on Tuesday, Dec. 30.  A year ago, UD edged the Rebels 83-80 in overtime. A-10 SCHEDULE AND EXHIBITIONDayton's complete schedule, including the Atlantic 10 Conference dates, will be announced in early September. The Flyers will play Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis home-and-home, and will also host George Mason, Rhode Island, Richmond and Saint Joseph's. Dayton will travel to league newcomer Davidson, George Washington, UMass and VCU. The league's 14 members will play an 18-game conference schedule for the first time since the 1990-91 season. There will be one preseason exhibition game at UD Arena against an opponent to be determined.  SEASON TICKETSMiller explained to the media during the Flyers' NCAA Tournament run how important basketball is to the city and how much the program has come to expect its fans to show up and drown out fans of other programs."It doesn't matter where we go -- Maui, Charleston, Buffalo," Miller said. "We were swamped in Buffalo, by Syracuse. But they (Dayton fans) found a way. They broke through. You can hear them at all times."Join the charge and purchase 2014-15 season tickets in the 400 level can do so by calling (937) 229-4433, logging on to DaytonFlyers.com or visiting the University of Dayton ProSource Ticket Office in person at UD Arena.New season ticket holders still have the ability to buy pre-sale men's basketball season tickets. These seats will be assigned once the upper arena seat relocation process has concluded in September. New season tickets are available in the 400 level for $114 per seat or at $75 per seat in "The Roost" (Sections 401 & 402).
CURRENT SEASON TICKET HOLDER UPDATESThe ticket office staff is currently finalizing the lower arena seat move process which will conclude in the coming weeks.  Lower Arena season tickets were renewed this year at a rate of over 99 percent.  Once the Aug. 29 ticket renewal deadline passes, the ticket office staff will begin the upper Arena and parking upgrade processes. With the schedule being released current season ticket holders can expect to see their single-game ticket order form in the mail within the next few days. As an extra benefit, men's basketball season ticket holders have first chance at purchasing additional single-game tickets before the general public. Non-conference single-game tickets will go on sale to the general public on Sept. 2.
SCHEDULE FACTS AND FIGURES• Of the 16 teams the Flyers could play in the regular season, five posted 20 wins over more in 2013-14 and seven played in the post season.• During 2014-15, UD will play teams from the SEC (3), Mid-American Conference (3), ACC (2), American, Big 12, Colonial, Horizon, SWAC, Patriot, Mountain West and of course the Atlantic 10 Conference.• Dayton will open on a Friday for the first time since 2005 when Tennessee Tech visited UD Arena on Nov. 18.• In the non-conference season, UD will play four times on Saturday, three times on Tuesday, twice on Friday, and once each on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.  Dayton will not play on Monday during non-conference play.
