BEAVERCREEK -- Several families are homeless after a massive fire rushed through an apartment building about 7:30 Tuesday night.
Four different fire departments helped douse the massive flames at the Stonebridge Apartments, near The Greene.
"We were parking and looked over and there were all these flames shooting out of the backside of the building," said David Madden.
Madden saw the huge flames and dark plume of smoke, and ran to help those who might still be inside.
"I went up to the door and I just opened it and I just said, 'Fire! This is not a drill!'" said Madden.
"Why had people come through our building shouting, 'Get out, get out this is not a fire drill,'" said Frank Madden, who lives in the building.
Stonebridge residents were in awe of the flames and destruction.
"It's been torment, torment," said Mark Janora.
Janora waited outside with his family to see if his pets would be saved.
"I have PTSD from the war and every time I relive something he is always there," Janora said about his dog.
Finally, after two hours, they were reunited.
"I wanted to cry but I just kept trying to make jokes to just to calm myself down but it wasn't working," said Janora.
Fire investigators have not determined a cause.
