Woman Hit by Car Asking for Lower Speed Limit
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- A grandmother of 37 was hit by a car walking to her mailbox and the driver took off.
Now, she's home and wants to change the speed limit on Clyo Road, saying it's unsafe.
We first told you about this accident last month.
And we asked the Montgomery County Engineer if the speed limit on the stretch of road was too high.
We're happy to report the engineer's office is taking what happened to Sue Carter very seriously, and it's forced them to take a second look at the speed limit here.
"I feel like I'm getting a little better everyday," said Sue Carter.
Sue and her husband Blake are thankful they still have one another to hold on to, but they add their life will never be the same after a car ran off the road and hit Sue while she was getting her mail at night.
"You think about things that I love to do, that I don't know if I'll ever be able to do them," said Sue.
It's because of that that Sue and Blake want to make sure no one else has to go through this.
So they're asking the county to lower the speed limit.
It's something ODOT did in 2010.
They lowered the speed from 50 mph to 45.
The Carters say it's still too high though, and after watching our story and hearing about Sue, the Montgomery County engineer decided they will do a speed study.
"We have to follow a very prescribed format of doing a study and collecting various types of data about the roadway, the speeds and the traffic volume," said Paul Gruner, Montgomery County Engineer.
They then give the results of the study to ODOT who decides if the speed limit should be lowered.
"He has to start somewhere, so if a speed study is where they want to start then that's good, that's a good thing," said Sue.
The possibility of getting the speed limit lowered could be the silver lining in this terrible situation that's forever left a mark on Sue and Blake.
"They've changed our live forever, their lives might be the same, but ours will never be the same," said Sue.
The Carters have also asked if the county would put in a street light at the intersection of Rooks and Clyo. They say it's very hard to see at night.
The county engineer said he's looking into the possibility as well.
