Repo Man Shows Little Sympathy For Nonpaying Car Owners in Ride Along
CAMDEN -- It's Operation Repo, but not TruTV. We rode along with the Camden Repo man as he repossess delinquent vehicles.
"We are going down to Center and Cherry Street in Germantown. I have a surveillance crew who works out spotting repos and we have spotted a repo we have been looking for for quite some time," said Rocky Hall, owner of Premier Recovery Concepts. "I've repoed everything from wedding rings to airplanes, and every situation is going to be different. Every one."
This first situation we followed him on was stress free. "There's my vehicle right where he said it would be," said Hall. "My spotter is good."
He took it while the nonpaying owner was at work.
"I really don't want any confrontation unless I have to," said Hall.
For the people who try to hide from the repo man, Rocky says 'good Luck' since he can get in and out of your property so quickly.
"10 to 15 seconds to take custody lawfully, if you do it the right way," he said.
The next repo was not stress free.
"What's going on man this is my uncle's car," said a man trying to stop Hall.
"It's being repossessed," Hall answered.
"What? Can I call him?"
"You can call him if you want to but it's being repossessed," Hall responded.
Hall has repoed thousands of cars and says the call can happen 365 days a year.
"Some of these people I've dealt with as many as 14 times before, and every one of these repossessions has the propensity for violence," he said. "It's very dangerous. In my 30 years I've seen a lot. I've been shot at. Attempted to be run over by cars. Baseball bats. I've seen all kinds of things."
You've seen some of the danger on show's like TRUTV's Operation Repo, but Hall says these shows actually hurt his business.
"They have hurt it tremendously. You're not allowed to do any of those things. You can't randomly lay your hands on people, go up and smack them. You can't do anything like that," Hall said. "I want as little confrontation, as little contact as possible."
After each repo, Hall makes sure the police know where the car is.
"Hey, I got the Tahoe it's been picked up," he said while on the phone.
If your car gets repoed, you're looking at about $400 of repossession fees plus any delinquent payments. If it's your first time you should get it back. The second time your lien holder may require you pay off the car completely.
"Pay your bills," Hall said. "We are out there."
