Tonisha Harris Pleads No Contest to Theft Charge

DAYTON -- The woman accused of using a homicide victim's stolen property was found guilty of theft and receiving stolen property.

Harris pleaded no contest to theft and receiving stolen property charges Thursday in Judge Dennis Langer's Courtroom.

Judge Langer told Harris the court finds her guilty on all eight counts before her.

Harris entered the courtroom by herself with an ankle bracelet for her house arrest.

Tonisha Harris, 30, is also accused of being involved in the disappearance of Nichelle McKnight and her 4-year-old son, Zaden. The two were reported missing March 25. Antwan Anderson, suspected of killing both Nichelle and Zaden, reportedly killed himself following a police chase on April 7.

Nichelle's body was later found along the Stillwater River in Dayton. Volunteers continue searching the Miami Valley for Zaden, who investigators say likely is dead.

The family of Nichelle and Zaden sat in the court room while the court reviewed the charges before her. Around a dozen people dressed in neon green shirts, Zaden's favorite color, with blue print saying 'Where's Zaden?'

We talked with Nichelle's sister, Jasmine Cade, who came face to face with Harris for the first time, "she walked in front of us, my heart almost stopped."

Cade says she knows Harris knows something about Zaden's disappearance, "I think she knows a lot. She just doesn't want to say much. I'm not looking for her to apologize. Because I don't want think you're sorry at all. You are sorry you got caught."

Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says Harris was caught on video using McKnight's debit card at several locations. McKnight had reported the card stolen.

Judge Langer says it's unclear if probation will be issued.

Harris will be sentenced August 14, 2014, at 9:30 a.m.

Each of the eight counts against her is a fifth degree felony which could carry up to one year in prison. However, Harris will only be sentenced on seven of them.
