State Rep. Blair of Washington Township Dead at 67
COLUMBUS -- State Rep. Terry Blair (R-Washington Township) died today at age 67.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that the three-term Republican had been battling an illness.
House Speaker William G. Batchelder called Blair an outstanding local leader, the Dispatch reports.
"He was a remarkable chairman and distinguished member of the Ohio House of Representatives," Batchelder said in a statement. " He was also a very dear friend of mine whose integrity was above reproach and I am deeply saddened by today's news."
Gov. John Kasich said he was saddened to hear of Blair's death.
He served Montgomery County well, was dedicated to his work in the House and as chair of the State and Local Government Committee and was liked by his colleagues," Kasich said in a statement. "My familys thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Judy, and their children and grandchildren at this difficult time.
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Borges responded to news of Blair's passing.
"We were saddened to hear of the passing of Representative Blair this morning," Borges said. "He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and his colleagues. He served his community for decades and had the respect of all. Our prayers are with his family and loved ones."
Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern also reacted to news of Blair's death.
Although we worked on opposite sides of the aisle in the Ohio House of Representatives, I always appreciated State Representative Blairs generosity and collegiality," Redfern said. "He will be truly be missed by his family, constituents, and his colleagues in the Ohio House of Representatives. On behalf of Democrats across Ohio, I personally offer my prayers and sincerest sympathies at this difficult time.
Blair was a Washington Township trustee for 21 years before being elected as a state representative. He was serving his third term representing the 42nd House District.
Blair had been active in local organizations, such as the American Business Club of Dayton, the Noon Optimist Club of Centerville, the Church of the Incarnation, Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association and Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, and four children and eight grandchildren.
