One Suspect, Two Meth Lab Busts, One Month Apart

MIAMISBURG -- James Plemons, 45, rap sheet is three pages long including two open drug cases.

Plemons didn't learn his lesson after he was caught and convicted for running a meth lab in 2004.  He got hauled off last month after another meth lab caught fire behind a vacant home on Maue Road in Miamisburg.

"There was smoke everywhere and we needed to keep the air off,  kids in the house and the dog put up. It really freaked us out," said neighbor Thomas Kent. "And then this week, we saw him on the news again. That he got busted by a U-Haul truck by the railroad tracks and we were laughing. We said man I can't believe the system would let that guy out and right back to it again.

Even after a major meth lab bust like the one in Miamisburg April 3rd, it takes a few months to get the lab results back. Often times prosecutors will not press charges until those results are in. While in the meantime the suspect is able to bond out.

"I think it is common," said Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Captain Mike Brem. "I think the prosecutors, the judges the whole judicial system is overwhelmed with addiction problems, drug abuse problems, trafficking problems right now. We are trying to combat it but it is difficult."

Captain Brem also says when a suspect faces charges that aren't considered violent they are more likely to be released.

So how much money has Plemons cost you the tax payer from running meth labs?

"A basic cleanup could cost anywhere between $5-$15,000 and that's including manpower for the fire department response, haz-mat response, etc..."

"They need to look back at how much it's happened and put him away," said Kent. "It's the same guy. If he's not going to do right just put him away for a while until he learns his lesson."

After this most recent arrest, the judge revoked Plemons bond from the previous cases. So this time he won't be able to bond out and hopefully we won't have to do this story again.
