9-1-1 Call Released From 12-Hour Amber Alert

CENTERVILLE -- A 2-year-old and his mother are safe and sound after going missing for 12 hours in Centerville.

You may have received the AMBER Alert on your phone late Wednesday night when Melissa Myers, 35, and her son Nolan went missing.

Centerville Police issued the AMBER Alert because the mother was threatening to kill herself and her baby, and it was an ordinary citizen that helped resolve this scary situation.

According to the 9-1-1 call, Melissa Myers took her son, Nolan, away while warning her dad something bad was about to happen.

"She's got my grandson and she's somewhere. She's saying she's going to kill her and the baby," Melissa's father said in the call.

Meyers and her son went missing from their home around 7:30 Wednesday night. Twelve hours later police found them at the Best Western hotel in Monroe after a man saw their car and called 911.

"You don't see many lime green cars," said Stephen Mattfield who called 911.

Neighbors in Centerville say they never saw it coming.

"Surprising," said neighbor Mickey Cecil. "It's a quiet neighborhood and we never see any thing like that. We're surprised to see it.  A banner is how we found out from the bottom of the TV."

Myers' family was also surprised, but her dad did tell the dispatcher Myers had been struggling with alcohol problems. Either way he's just glad the AMBER Alert worked.

"Extreme relief," her dad said. "I just want to get him home."

Centerville police tells us the child was not injured but Myers does face misdemeanor charges of aggravated menacing, domestic violence threats, and inducing panic for the incident.

Children Services tells us they talked to the baby's father who was out of town. They decided to place the kids temporarily with the grandparents.

To issue an AMBER Alert:
- the child must be under 18
- a confirmed abduction
- law enforcement needs to believe child is in imminent danger or death
- must have sufficient info on suspect, child or vehicle

There have been four alerts in Ohio this year, one in the Miami Valley. In both 2012 and 2013 there were nine in Ohio and one in the Miami Valley.

They usually last a few hours; this was one of the longest in recent times.
