Search for Zaden: Volunteer Numbers Grow
DAYTON-- The search for missing 4-year-old Zaden McKnight resumed Wednesday with increased efforts from volunteers.
The body of Nichelle McKnight was found along the Stillwater river weeks ago, but her son Zaden hasn't been seen since March 25.
"No word is good word for me because they haven't found them but I'm okay with it," said Michelle Williams, Zaden's Grandmother, at the search headquarters Wednesday afternoon. It was her first time joining the search efforts, still grieving the death of her daughter Nichelle- Zaden's mother.
"I just had to come and meet them I just had to and just put my arms around them and thank them and tell them how great and awesome they are because this is unbelievable," she said.
"The police have every reason to believe he may be in this area and they were calling on the public's help and that's why were here," said Victoria Moore, the organizer of the volunteer search.
A group of more than 40 citizens gathered Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Boonshoft Museum in Dayton, and fanned out to different locations to search along the cliffs on Riverside drive, again along the Stillwater River Trail, and through the neighborhood surrounding Birchwood Avenue.
Police were looking for Antwan Anderson in the Birchwood area before he shot and killed himself during a police chase. Anderson is the prime suspect in Zaden's disappearance.
"It's amazing how we've gotten so many people out here and we couldn't be more thankful," Moore said, "We are focusing on Zaden. We're not here as a community to pass the blame on anybody or anything like that because that's not our job. We are here to look for a little boy who is missing and needs to be found."
"Get me some answers so I can continue on with my grieving process with my daughter and with my grandson," Williams added.
Volunteers are planning to look again on Saturday afternoon.
If you would like to join the search you can follow the page "Missing Child: Zaden McKnight" on Facebook. Click here to go to that page.
The second suspect Dayton Police say is connected to the disappearance, Tonisha Harris, will be in court on May 1st.
Anyone with information on Zaden's whereabouts should call Dayton Police 333-COPS.
