Dayton Fights New Bar Opening at Troubled Location
DAYTON -- The City of Dayton is currently fighting a new bar from opening up in a previous troubled location.
City Commissioners recently objected to a new liquor permit for the 212 S. Ludlow location, a bar known formerly as A-List Lounge and then Club Envy.
The state sided last week with the city by denying a new location from opening up inside the former establishment. Dayton Police, The Downtown Dayton Partnership, Board Trustees with Chaminade Julienne High School all recently attended a liquor hearing opposing the permit.
Dayton Police testified that the new applicant, Allen Moore, has ties with the former Club Envy Operator, Demetrius Wright.
They went on to say that from Jan. 1, 2011, to July 22, 2012, police responded to 66 calls for police service at Club Envy.
They also noted that on Sept. 23, 2011, a Clark State University student-athlete was shot and killed at that location.
Paul Sains was on the Clark State football team with Kordero Hunter and said he misses his teammate every day. "If it doesn't change it is going to happen again," he said.
Chaminade Julienne High School also testified against the new liquor permit because they have hundreds of kids nearby. They went on to say they have around 200 events a year between 6-9 p.m.
In a statement to ABC 22/FOX 45, Chamanade-Julian President Dan Meixner said, "We, along with other Dayton neighbors, believe that the applicants have not demonstrated that they intend to operate a business that protects and enhances the progress the community has made. We are pleased that the Division of Liquor Control has reached the same conclusion and has chosen to deny the proposed permit."
Over the weekend Dayton Police responded to a suspected boot joint operation going on. They say when they went inside there were 50-60 people standing around a bar with liquor, without a license from the state of Ohio.
Police took a sample of a bottle of 151 to be tested for confirmation that it is alcohol.
The applicant, Allen Moore, now has 30 days to appeal the state's decision denying a liquor permit for an establishment.
