Set Your Clocks Forward Tonight for Daylight Saving
KETTERING -- What time is it? Time for you to change your clocks.
"I honestly forgot about it until you reminded me," said Rachelle Stokes.
If you're like her and her husband who get up at 4:50 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. respectfully springing forward for daylight saving probably means, "Yea I lose an hour of sleep," said husband Jelani Stokes.
"My weekend's are already too short," said Jeannine Diano of Kettering.
Look on the bright side. You'll get to see your coworkers and classmates an hour earlier.
"They have school, football," said Diano. "5:00 in the morning is going to be more like 4:00 in the morning."
Chappy's bar in Moraine closes at 2:00 am. but on a night like this it's not hard to lose track of time.
"It's quite confusing, people seem to think you can actually stay open another hour," said bartender Amy Park. "You really have to explain it to them, it's almost like you need a chart to explain it."
Sleep experts actually recommend instead of going out tonight, to go to bed 30-45 minutes earlier. Just don't forget to change the clocks before you fall asleep.
So how long does it take for that lost hour to kick in?
"Probably Sunday night when I'm tired and I know I'm going to work the next day," said Diano.
"I think it's going to take about a week to get over all the affects and get used to it. But I think we'll see enjoy the extra hour of daylight as well," said Jelani.
Sun is good, but the loss of sleep actually leads to 11 percent more traffic accidents and an increased risk of heart attacks.
Tips to make the transition a little easier:
-Go to bed 30-45 minutes earlier Saturday night.
-Clear your mind before bed and jot down your to-do list to get it off your mind. Then take deep, cleansing breaths once you're in bed.
-Move your alarm clock far away from your bed. This will force you to get up and moving - something that will wake you up quickly.
-For breakfast, skip the coffee and choose fruit instead. There's actually more energy in an apple than a cup of coffee.
-Plus you don't have a caffeine crash afterwards!
