UD Bedsheet Competition Shows Flyer Spirit
DAYTON-- Students at the University of Dayton are airing their dirty laundry about Stanford's men's basketball team.
The campus fan organization "Red Scare" tweeted out a competition, asking students to make their best bed sheet sign showing U.D. spirit, and the competition is fierce.
"We wouldn't make a bed sheet sign if we didn't think we could win," said senior Jess Koley about her sign at 20/22 Woodland Avenue. It reads "We're dancing in Memphis... whoosh! Go UD," and house residents think its a winner.
"That song had kind of been in my head all week so we wanted to integrate it with the sign," Koley said, "We're in it to win it."
Some of the biggest competition is just across the street, "They told us a prize from the university so it could be anything- we're hoping for free tuition," resident Robbie Petrick said. He and roommate Austin Stefan aren't just competing for the prize, they're punning player Vee Sanford's name on their sign (Sanford>Stanford) because they're big fans.
"I'm gunna miss Vee next year there's no doubt about it he's definitely my favorite player this year," Petrick said.
A few houses down, junior Chris Pyle is in it for the spirit. His sign reads "Cinderella lives in Dayton this year."
"I guess since there an 11 seed they're kind of a Cinderella," he said, "But at the same time this hasn't really happened here in a long time."
Where would Cinderella live if she lived in Dayton? Chris says, "She'd live at UD arena because that's where all the magic's happening this year.
On Kiefaber street, seniors at the 230 address are hoping their spray paint poetry is enough to win.
"I've seen some pretty impressive signs but this was one of the better ones I think," said resident Laura Helboing.
"It's all just coming together in one great magical moment," said Jonathan Golab back on Woodland Ave.
All competition aside- airing their dirty laundry about Stanford has united students behind their university's basketball team.
Entries for the competition must be submitted before 6 pm Thursday and can be done by tweeting a picture at the Red Scare.
