Obamacare Deadline Looms As Glitches Continue
CENTERVILLE -- The deadline to sign up for Obamacare ended at midnight Monday. However, the website was experiencing technical glitches all day.
To sign up, you have to go to Healthcare.gov and click through a few different pages. But then, for many people, that's when the site stops working.
Users had a couple options: sit and wait for it to start working again or type in your email address and they'll notify you when the site is up and running again. Users were waiting for hours for the reply.
Randi Retz, 39, of Centerville has been trying to sign up for Obamacare for the past week.
"Every time I tried to log in it's been doing this and I tried three times today," she said.
Randi keeps getting this message: "Healthcare.gov has a lot of visitors right now," which basically means you can't continue through the process of signing up for a healthcare plan.
"They're saying you get fined and I don't want to get fined. I don't want to get in trouble. I want to do everything proper by the law. If I don't get it, I don't know what I'll do," Randi said.
Luckily, Randi has been able to set up an account with the site, which means her deadline to apply will be extended. Still, she's frustrated that she hasn't been able to choose a plan.
"It just says apply here, and I've already applied and it just keeps going back to the apply page. How many times do I have to apply. Once should be enough or twice at the most," she said. "It keeps giving me the run around. Go to this site, go to this site, check this. I'm like why can't it just be simple."
She even tried calling the customer service number listed on the frozen site and got this message.
"We're sorry, but due to an unusually high call volume, all our representatives are busy. Please call back during the day or on the weekend. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Goodbye."
Anyone who started the process, like Randi, will get a few more days to complete the application, but only if the website stops freezing up.
