ODOT, Montgomery County Ready for the Upcoming Storm

MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- We checked with ODOT and Montgomery County to see what they're doing in preparation for the storm.

ODOT tells me they have several crews out today pre-treating the highways and state roads, and Montgomery County crews are doing the same thing but this storm, they have more salt than before.

A truckload of salt to the rescue for Montgomery county crews, 800-tons of salt unloaded just today at the county salt barns.

"We're getting to be we're in pretty decent shape," said Paul Gruner, Montgomery County Engineer.

Since last week, the county has received 5 to 800-tons of salt a day, adding up to 4-thousand tons.

Not to mention the crews scheduled to come in over the weekend.

"We have 22 routes that are pretty well established and then we have 22 drivers driving those routes," said Gruner.

ODOT crews are also hitting the roads.

"From all the planning that we've done in preparation for the storm I hope it lives up to the hype," said Kyle Reindel, ODOT.

Crews are preparing for the storm by filling up their trucks with a mixture called brine.

"What the salt brine is going to do is once the snow does hit the pavement it's actually going to melt the snow upon contact," said Reindel.

Once on the road, crews spray the major highways and ramps leaving their trail behind.

"We're ready for it," said the ODOT driver.

They're ready because ODOT says their drivers take what old man winter throws at them as a personal challenge.

"The more snow we get and stuff it is too, I mean, trying to get it off, making sure all the roads are clear and everything. Trying to make it safe for everybody," he said.

As safe as it can be, but drivers say it's also up to you.

"Take it easy, be slow and be safe," said Ruby Thorntan.

ODOT says they have 19 crews scheduled to work starting midnight Sunday until midnight Tuesday.

They plan on working 12 hours shifts.
