New Trend: Lunchtime Surgeries

MIAMI VALLEY -- Some of us start to feel sluggish around lunch time and slip out of the office for a quick bite. However, more people in the Miami Valley are using that time for a different kind of pick me up -- surgery.

It's a new year and Courtney Ward is getting closer to having the body she's always dreamed of.

"I lost a lot of weight a few years ago. I had gastric bypass surgery. Lost over 100 pounds and I have a lot of loose skin," said Ward.

After losing the weight Ward was still not loving her body, but didn't feel comfortable going under the knife, so she visited Pure Elegance Day spa, which specializes in non-invasive surgery.

"I wasn't sure what to expect. They said it was laser lipo suction so I was like what it this going to entail," said Ward.

The owner of Pure Elegance, Tonya Shepherd, tells us the Laser Lipo treatment takes just 30 minutes. No needles are involved and there is no down time. She says more clients are popping in on their lunch break for a quick fix.

"We have 120 lasers that lay on the surface of the skin and penetrate down into your fat cells the fat cells then shrink liquify and it comes out the lymphatic drainage.  Basically for the next 72 hours you will be going to the bathroom quite a bit to release that."

Ward, who is now acting and modeling, says the procedure has given her a boost of confidence. "I was asking people in my house, do I look different? Do I look different. Everyone was saying, yeah I can see it. Mostly I could feel the skin tightening."

Maria Penn popped into Pure Elegance during her lunch break for a micro facelift.  Shepherd says the procedure erases fine lines and wrinkles using electrical currents with no pain or bruising.

"Can you see the eyelid moving in through here. That's re-educating the muscle where my fingers are to tighten and tone the lid and arch the eyebrows," said Shepherd while demonstrating the procedure.

Maria is 48 and says with age she's seen more and more lines settling in on her face.  In just 30 minutes she feels refreshed. "I see the lines gone. I see the redness and blotches are taken care of. You're doing all the right eating and the exercising and this puts that little bit of extra umph, making you feel better about yourself." said Penn.

Across town in Kettering, Dr. James Apesos has been doing traditional surgeries for more than 30 years and he is seeing more people requesting less invasive work.

"The idea today is that there are easier surgeries. People seek that expecting the same results from what I would call a classic or traditional surgery and the results are not the same," said Dr. Apesos. In addition to traditional surgery clients can come into  Dr. Apesos' office for lunchtime procedures, including Botox and other fillers. He says there is another down side to these procedures. It typically lasts only four to six months.

However, some say the trade off is worth it if it keeps the pain away. That's one thing I do not like, needles. I do not like to be hurt. It just makes you feel good when you walk out feeling pretty inside and out.

The owner of Pure Elegance Day Spa says after a procedure clients should come in every four to six months for a $99 maintenance. Some of their procedures include Microcurrent Therapy for facelifts and tightening and toning the body. The Lipo Laser Therapy helps with spot fat reduction and the LED Light Therapy, for hair loss, fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage.
