UPDATE: Mastiff-Mixes Apparently Kill Dayton Woman; Owners Arrested

UPDATE: The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center just informed us that they've determined the dogs involved in this attack are mastiff-mixes, and not pit bulls.

The Montgomery County Coroner has identified the victim as Klonda Richey, 57.  An autopsy on Richey will be performed tomorrow.

DAYTON -- Police say a woman was apparently killed this morning by two vicious dogs outside her East Bruce Avenue home.

A neighbor called 911 around 8:15 this morning with a report of a body on the sidewalk. She said the body was face down and naked. When Dayton Police officers arrived on scene, they found the woman's body on the sidewalk.

Dayton Police say two dogs that look like pit bulls charged the officers, they then shot and killed both dogs in the area that were suspected to have attacked the woman.

Police say they obtained a warrant for 35 E. Bruce Ave., where they arrested Andrew Nason and Julie Custer on suspicion of owning the dogs.

The victim's identity has not been released, pending family notification.

There is some discrepancy over the exact breed of the two attacking dogs. Dayton Police say the dogs looked like pit bulls, the Montgomery Co. Animal Rescue Center says the dogs were licensed and listed as mastiffs.

Dayton Police are still investigating and could tell not the media the exact mix or breed of the dogs but there have been other concerns about these dogs at this location.

"We've had complaints in the past, our office has been out here on several occasions and in an attempt to contact the owners to resolve those complaints without success," says ARC Director Mark Kumpf.

ARC agents say the victim had more than a dozen cats in her home, all apparently fed and cared for. The agents spent most of the afternoon removing the cats from the home.
