More Development Expected When Chinese Manufacturer Moves In to Moraine
MORAINE -- The entire GM plant is about 4.2 million square feet. The auto glass manufacturer Fuyao will be occupying 1.4 million square feet and bring about 800 jobs. With all the recent development, it's a good time to live in the Miami Valley.
"We're now starting to see a trend where we are seeing other projects starting to come to the Dayton area," said President of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Phil Parker. "It's our turn."
We saw the development at Austin Landing, developers are currently working on a 1.8 million square foot distribution facility in Union, the Dayton racino is just a few months away and now we learn Fuyao wants to occupy a good portion of the former GM plant.
"I just read that a while ago. I said this is good, we need good things," said local resident Stephen England.
"It's been a little frustrating because we know that plant sat idle for a long time. We don't expect that anyone is going to come in and take over 4 million feet but this company is making a sizable investment," said Parker.
He believes the auto glass manufacturer could bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the Miami Valley in the coming years.
"There is no industry that has a better impact than manufacturing because of people, raw materials, logistics, all the things that it impacts," he said. "So the ripple effects of manufacturing is tremendous. You're talking about them doing business with other smaller suppliers, you're talking about them doing business with logistics companies, think about the hiring."
"For every dollar spent in manufacturing it has a ripple effect of $1.71 of additional sales in the local economy," said Angelia Erbaugh of the Dayton Region Manufacturers Association.
And the ripple effect may continue.
"I'm grateful but I'm also very optimistic that this is going to lead to other suppliers that are going to want to relocate in the area because of what's happening today," said Parker.
