Drivers Have Trouble With Snow Covered, Slick Roads
SUGARCREEK TWP. -- Crews were fighting to keep up with Friday's snowfall and drivers were fighting to keep their cars on the roadways.
It was slow driving through the back roads and side streets and at some points, the interstate.
"Average speed about 20 to 25 on the highway for everybody I was in between the semi and I was on the slow lane and he was in the middle lane and all of a sudden it started spinning out-of-control and came out of nowhere," said Natalie Mcdermott.
Her forerunner spun out on 75 South after hitting black ice.
"I ended up being in the ditch right here," she said. "It was scary. The first time it happened; extremely scary."
Roadside Assistance was also needed after a seven car pile up on 675 South Friday afternoon.
"A bunch of cars around the bend on Wilmington Pike were suddenly stopped and I tried to stop in time even though it's only going 40 miles an hour and I slid into the side rails and hit the van in front of me," said Molly Clark who was driving to work.
ODOT had 118 plows out today fighting to keep the roads clear,
"It had been about an inch of snow on the ground," said Sugarcreek Township firefighter Lt. Kenneth Collier.
"It was very very slick it wasn't as plowed as it is now. It was still snowing very hard at that point," said Clark.
The crash sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries and backed traffic up for miles.
"Get my truck towed and I'm going to have to look for a new truck this thing is totaled I don't see any interest in fixing it the bumper is going into the radiator," said Clark.
Over in Clark County there were more than 40 crashes today, some of which closed off I-70 Westbound for almost an hour.
"Stay slow be attentive to what's going on," said Lt. Collier. "If you see us out on the emergency scene make sure you slow down to move over. Give the crews a chance to work."
As the snow continues to fall, some roads are snow covered and there could be slick spots. Use extra caution on bridges and ramps. They freeze first.
