Making Dreams Come True: Community Helps 4-Year-Old with Terminal Brain Cancer
NEW LEBANON -- A little girl who is terminally ill with brain cancer is getting a huge boost from the community, as friends, neighbors and perfect strangers are pulling together to ensure all her dreams come true.
Nasya is a beautiful 4-year-old girl with a giggle you won't soon forget.
"She has touched many people ... with many people following her story," explained her mother Kathy Morgan.
But her story is not an easy one to tell. At just 4 years old, Nasya has a rare form of brain cancer, called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).
"They said you've got less than 12 months with your daughter. There's nothing we can do, six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy and pray for the best," Kathy Morgan said.
That's what the Morgans have been doing as a family, and the community is behind them.
"We just felt like we needed to do something for the family to show support, to help them, and financially, to take any sort of stress off of them," said Carrie Clouse. She and her friends at the New Lebanon First Baptist Church stepped up and together rallied their neighbors to come out to this spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser for the family.
"It took a whole community and beyond to be able to put this on tonight," said Paula Lavine, a fellow organizer.
"I felt so much love. And I couldn't believe so many people care so much. Some people don't even know us and their hearts have reached out to our family to help," Kathy explained.
A stranger dropped off a check for $500. It's money the Morgans will spend well, with a trip to Disney World likely in Nasya's future.
"Anything she wants, wherever she wants to go, whatever life she can experience it will be given to her and the fundraisers help us out because they give us that opportunity to give her the world that she deserves."
Anything to keep little Nasya giggling.
