Young Boy Donates to Dayton Children's to Help Kids Feel Better
DAYTON -- A young philanthropist is setting an example.
The 4-year-old boy is the youngest to make a donation to Dayton Children's Hospital.
The donation drive kicked off in November, and it ended when Brackston Morris turned 4 this weekend.
His mom says it was his way of trying to make his friend feel better.
"It all began around November of last year. We were here visiting friends, and Brackston decided that he would like to bring his friends here at the hospital a present, to make them feel better," said Stephanie Morris, Brackston's mom.
Brackston asked his family and friends to buy the donations from Kohl's, through the Kohl's Cares for Kids Campaign, which gives money back to Dayton Children's.
He wanted books, stuffed animals and blankets.
"He decided that blankets make him feel better and that when we read it makes him feel better," said Morris.
"To have a 4 year old and someone who just turned 4 be that forward thinking and wanting to do something kind, you don't have a lot of 4 year olds that really come and want to to that," said Karen Mueller, manager of the Child Life Department at Dayton Children's Hospital.
Brackston is the youngest person to donate to Dayton Children's, and the hospital is grateful.
"We really depend on people in the community to help us in that way," said Mueller. "For us it means we can really help that patient have a positive experience."
"We needed to do something, and it was just that simple for Brackston, he decided that we needed to buy them presents and we needed to visit them. As an adult we over-analyze that and as a child it's just that simple, we needed to dig in and help," said Morris.
They started a donation drive called "Dig in for Dayton Children's."
Brackston's mom tells us she hopes to do drives like this every few months.
