Clayton Mayor's Car Hit by Bullet During Violent Hit-and-Run (WATCH TRAFFIC CAMERA VIDEO
CLAYTON -- Clayton police tell us Mayor Joyce Dietering's car was hit by a bullet during a case of "road rage" Tuesday night.
The crash happened on N. Main Street near Heathcliff around 9 p.m.
Police tell us an innocent white four-door vehicle was hit by a black SUV trying to get away from several other vehicles that boxed them in.
"They were boxed in with three or four cars. Those vehicles were chasing them not allowing them to get out of the lane," said Richard Rose, Director of Public Safety.
A suburban that was involved in the crash on N. Main St. took off, but a short time later was pursued by the police chief who was in an unmarked car.
"The vehicle had blacked out its lights and there was heavy smoke on the road with very little light. So, the vehicle was lost somewhere in that area," said Rose.
While the Chief of Police pursued that car, the victims of the road rage incident got out of the cars and started running.
Moments later, an unidentified vehicle pulled up and shot at them multiple times.
Police say the passenger, Kevin Florence Junior, of Dayton was shot in the hand. He was able to get in a passerby's car to be driven to the hospital.
During the shooting, Clayton Mayor Joyce Deitering was leaving her office, her car was struck at least once by a bullet.
The "road rage" incident is believed to have started around Philadelphia and Main Street in Harrison Township.

Police have not identified any suspects.
CLAYTON -- Police confirm that Clayton Mayor Joyce Deitering's car was hit by a bullet during a violent hit-and-run crash Tuesday night.
Deitering was not injured. Police tell us she has a business in the area and was leaving for the night when she got caught in the crossfire.
Police have scheduled a press conference at 9:30 Wednesday morning to discuss the incident.

Police Investigating Shooting, Hit-and-Run
CLAYTON -- A hit and run that involved a shooting remains under investigation.
The crash happened around 11:00 Tuesday night on North Main Street and Heathcliff Road in Clayton.
Police have some leads and they are questioning a man who was taken into custody Tuesday night.
Officers were first called to the intersection for a report of a crash, after the crash shots were reportedly fired.
A driver in one of the cars fled the scene by the time police arrived. Another driver led police on a short chase before getting away.
Around 11:00 shell casings were found on the street where the crash happened. A short time after the shooting one man showed up at the Urgent Care Center with a gunshot wound to his hand. That man is being questioned; at this point officers are not sure what role he had in this incident.
Police tell us there are several locations they are checking on this morning that could give them more answers as to what happened.
CLAYTON -- At least one person has been shot and a couple vehicles are mangled in Clayton.
According to scanner traffic, a hit-and-run occurred near Heathcliff and Main Street.
So far, one person has showed up at a nearby Urgent Care after getting shot in the hand.
There are multiple scenes along Main Street.
