Vandalia Announces Debris Removal Plan
Vandalia, Ohio -- A significant wind event struck in Vandalia late last night, causing substantial damage to property and some injuries.
At this point, City of Vandalia Public Works crews are actively clearing storm debris from the public right-of-way. Any debris on the roadway, the tree lawn or the sidewalk is being cleared by crews today.
Residents who have storm-related debris in their front yard, side yard or back yard may use the weekend to move that debris to the tree lawn area of their property, but not in the street, and crews will remove it on Monday.
Crews will also be removing construction debris that is placed at the curb, but not in the street.
IMPORTANT Debris must be separated into two distinct piles, one for brush, limbs and branches, the other for construction debris such as 2x4s, plywood sheets, home siding and roof shingles.
The City of Vandalia is also continuing to work closely with officials from Dayton Power & Light to restore power to all customers affected by last nights storm.
The safety and well-being of all Vandalia residents is the primary concern.
Building inspectors from the City are currently going door to door in affected neighborhoods to assess the damage and make a determination as to the safety of each home structure.
Dayton Power & Light has arranged for expedited service restoration once the homes are determined to be safe. Homes that are determined to be unsafe for habitation will not have power restored until necessary repairs are made. It is also possible for a home to have its power disconnected if the inspections determine it is unsafe for habitation.
The City of Vandalia and Dayton Power & Light are committed to the process that will identify potential hazards and get every homes power restored as quickly as possible.
Residents with specific questions regarding their home electric service should call DP&L, 1-877-4OUTAGE,or 1-877-468-8243.
