Dragons Fill the Stands Again This Season
DAYTON -- Minor League Baseball has announced the final attendance rankings for all 161 teams for the 2013 season. The Dayton Dragons, a Single-A team, finished fifth in average per date at 8,405 with a season total of 579,946. Nine of the top 10 clubs in the final rankings were Triple-A teams with the Dragons as the only exception.
The Dragons final attendance total ranked first among the 131 teams below the Triple-A level. The Dragons have finished in the top 10 among all Minor League Baseball clubs in each of their 14 seasons and have finished No. 1 among all Single-A and Double-A teams for eight straight years.
The Dragons' 14 seasons of operation represent the top 14 single-season attendance totals in Single-A baseball history.
Each of the Dragons home games in 2013 resulted in a sell-out, extending the Dragons sell-out streak to 983 consecutive games. Every Dragons game ever played at Fifth Third Field has been a sell-out. The Dragons are targeting May of 2014 for their 1,000th consecutive sell-out.
Minor League Baseball also announced that its regular season attendance surpassed 41 million fans again this season, as it has done so for nearly a decade. The 41,553,781 fans that MiLB attracted in 2013 is nearly 275,000 more than last years total. The industry also saw almost a 2 percent rise in average attendance, despite facing a multitude of weather issues early in the season.
