UPDATE: Springboro Police Release Photos Of Armed Robber
SPRINGBORO -- Police need your help to find a man wanted for armed robbery. It happened at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Springboro just off State Route 73 around 4 p.m.
ABC 22/FOX 45 obtained newly released surveillance pictures of the suspect Tuesday night.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. He's accused of threatening a hotel clerk with a gun if she didn't hand over the cash drawer.
"When I pulled up I saw 10 to 15 cop cars and the next thing I know I saw 10 to 15 cops running in the door and I didn't know what was going on," said Terry Honcher, who works across the street from the hotel.
Honcher and his buddy, James Ellis, were on their way to work, when they came across the aftermath of the armed robbery. The road leading up to the Hampton Inn was blocked off, as Springboro police searched for the guy.
"It's a scary thought really," said Ellis.
Police put the hotel on lockdown for hours as they searched for the suspect. Guests who were inside the hotel had to stay in their rooms. No one was allowed in or out because police weren't sure if the armed robber was hiding inside the Hampton.
"I would say it would be a pretty scary event for someone who's new to the area and isn't used to this. It's not something that would happen every day," said Springboro Police Det. Nathan Anderkin.
No one was injured. But police are concerned because the suspect is still on the loose with a handgun. It's unclear exactly how much cash he got away with.
The suspect is a black man, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 and130 pounds. He was last seen wearing all navy-colored clothes and a black baseball cap with red writing.
If you have any information on his whereabouts call Springboro police.
SPRINGBORO -- Around 4 p.m., a man walked into the Hampton Inn Suites on Greenwood Lane displaying a gun and demanding money.
Officials say the man then walked around the front desk counter, emptied the cash drawer, then took off running.
The hotel then went on lock-down. When police arrived on the scene, they searched the hotel and the surrounding area, but were unable to find him.
The suspect is described as a black male, around 5 foot 7, weighing around 130 lbs. He was last seen wearing all navy clothes, a black baseball cap with red writing. He was also carrying a hand gun.
Around 7 p.m., the lock-down was lifted. Police continue to search for the suspect.
Officials say this is very unusual because people rarely rob hotels. They are unsure how much money the suspect made away with.
The hotel has video surveillance, which officials are hoping reveals more details.
